Knock, Knock
Mike heard a knock on his front door. Opening it, he saw his friend Theodore standing with a backpack.
“It’s a perfect day today; not too hot, not too cold,” said Theodore. “Let’s go for a walk in the forest.”
“Great idea,” replied Mike.
And so Mike prepared some lunch and set off with his friend.
The Forest
The sun shone brightly as the two entered the forest. They followed one of several trails. Various birds sang from the trees.
Rest
After hiking for several hours, the two stopped for a rest.
“It’s very quiet now. I don’t hear anything — not even birds.” said Mike.
“Yes, it’s rather strange,” replied Theodore.
Continued Their Walk
They resumed their walk, and soon began talking about their school.
“I think the new teacher, Ms. Bellamy, is really cool,” said Mike. “She makes learning interesting and fun . . .
Theodore? Theodore? Theodore! Where are you?”
Mike suddenly noticed that Theodore was no longer walking beside him.
He looked to his left — and saw Theodore running down the hill as fast as lightning.
“Hmmm!” Mike thought, “How odd” . . .
GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR
Just then, there a deep, loud growl. Mike turned around and saw a huge, brown bear lunge toward him. Mike immediately fell to the ground, closed his eyes and lay completely still.
“Sniff, Sniff”
The bear came over to Mike and turned him over. It rolled his body around. Mike didn’t move a muscle. The bear then sniffed all over him.
After going about this for a while, the bear went over to Mike’s backpack. It tore it open and began gobbling up the contents. When the bear had finished, it walked away.
About 30 minutes later, Mike opened his eyes. He slowly got up. He then picked up his torn backpack and walked back home.
The Knock
A few days later, Mike heard a knock on the door. He opened it. It was Theodore.
“Mike! I’m so happy that you made it! It’s wonderful to see you again!” said Theodore with a big smile. “Say, let’s go for a night out in town. We can go to the disco, party, and have lots of FUN!”
“No thanks,” replied Mike, before shutting the door.
