Hi everyone.
I recently took the ancestry DNA test through ancestry.com, and I got my results within two weeks.
I am Filipino heritage and ethnicity. I have no Spanish or even Chinese in my family — no one ever mentioned anything other than we are Filipinos.
But I was so curious about what Filipino DNA is about because in the internet, there are a lot of people talking about the different heritage and culture that we have.
But anyhow this is the result that I got.
I am 62 percent Asia East, with 0 to 1% Asia South, and 0 to 1% Asia Central, so I don’t think that really counts.
And I am also 38% Polynesian, which is very surprising. I was unaware that I had any Polynesian in me, with a 0 to 1% Melanesian.
That Asia East doesn’t really separate the countries; it’s all one DNA. So I wish they had broken that down to Southeast Asian or North Asian part.
As far as Asia East, the countries to that is pretty vast: there are Russia, China, North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia, Myanmar, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, Palau.
And for the Pacific Islander or Polynesia, it is found in Tonga and Samoa. Also found in Fiji, New Zealand Maori, Micronesia, Philippines, Melanesia and Hawaii.
So I’m just wondering maybe the Philippines and the Polynesians share a common DNA. I’m not quite sure. I have no idea why I’m showing such a high amount of Polynesian DNA at 38%. Maybe there’s a family member that Polynesian.
Who knows?
If any of you out there also took the test, and got a large amount of Polynesia, please feel free to talk about that.
Anyhow, thank you for watching. I am not pleased with the result because it didn’t break down the Asian countries. But yeah, the Polynesian part got me.
